Regulations of the Competition
1. GENERAL PROVISIONS
The 9th International Competition of Musical Personalities, organised by the Alexander Tansman Association for the Promotion of Culture, City of Lodz Office, Lodz Philharmonic and Academy of Music in Lodz, will be held in Lodz on 12-18 November 2012. It will comprise the following disciplines:
· oboe
· clarinet
· violin
· viola
· cello
· piano
- The competition will be held at the Lodz Philharmonic.
- The competition is open to soloists of all nationalities born after
the 1st of January 1982 (up to the age of 30). - The competition is open to the public.
- The main criterion of judgement is the artist’s personality, his musical individuality, and therefore, representatives of various disciplines will compete in the final of the competition.
- Deadline for applications: 14th September 2012 (mailing date is decisive). Applications should be sent to the following address:

Documents to be attached:

- recent photograph,
- copy of the applicant’s birth certificate,
- CV (Curriculum Vitae), mailing address and e-mail
- DVD with the recording of A. Tansman's concerto (see: competition programme)
No documents or DVD will be returned.
- Finalists are obliged to turn up at the Secretariat of the Competition (Grand Hotel, Lodz, 72 Piotrkowska Street) until 12th November 2012 at the latest. All participants who arrive late through a fault of their own will be excluded from participation in the competition.
- The organisers of the competition reserve themselves the right to record the final and broadcast it on radio and television, and also to promote the recorded material in the media. No financial claims can be made by participants.
- Prize-winners are obliged to make recordings for television and radio on a no-fee basis, as well as video and audio recordings for the production of CDs that will document the competition.
- The winners of the Grand Prix of the previous Tansman Competitions of Musical Personalities cannot participate in the subsequent Tansman competitions.
Programme of the Competition
The participant is expected to play one of Alexander Tansman's concertoes for a given instrument and orchestra. It is allowed, for the purposes of the DVD recording, to play from the score with piano accompaniment.
During the final, on 16 November 2012 at Lodz Philharmonic, all finalists are obliged to perform the concerto by heart, with accompaniment of the Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Daniel Raiskin.

Structure of the Competition
1.
The competition will consist of the first stage and the final.
First stage
- On the basis of DVD recordings of the programme specified in the regulations (performing from the score with piano accompaniment allowed) submitted by participants, the jury composed of prominent musicians of various disciplines will qualify for the final the most outstanding personalities, though not more than 5 participants.
- Each participant will be informed of the jury’s decision by 12th October 2012. The organisers are not obliged to explain their decisions.
- The acceptance of an application is tantamount to the conclusion of the agreement of participation in the 9th International Competition of Musical Personalities. The sides of the agreement are the Organisation Committee and the participant.
Final
- Finalists are to perform exactly the same programme as the one recorded on the submitted DVD.
- Finalists chosen after the first stage are obliged to pay the entrance fee of 250 PLN at the Competition office before the final audition. They will be given full board and accommodation on 12-18 November 2012. Travel costs are to be covered by the finalists themselves.
Note: the aforementioned entrance fee is non-refundable. - The order of auditions will be determined by the drawing of lots.

2nd Prize – 7 000 euro
3rd Prize – 4 000 euro
4th Prize – 2 000 euro
5th Prize – 1 000 euro
Jury
- The jury is made up of eminent artists in the field of music, soloists, as well as Polish and foreign educationalists. The names of jury members will be published in due time.
- The jury acts on the basis of the regulations of the jury.
- The jury’s decisions are final and irrevocable, and cannot be annulled.
- The jury may decide to divide the prizes differently.
Final Provisions
1. The Director of the Competition is entitled to decide on all matters of organisation that do not come within the scope of the jury's handling. Such decisions are irrevocable and no legal action may be taken against them.
2. All doubts regarding the provisions contained in the present regulations shall be resolved by reference to the Polish text, which is the only authentic version.
